This is a set of graffiti that I photographed in late 2008 with my Sony Ericsson K310. This type of stencil art was common in the 2000's, part of the social and political critique from the Bush era. It is rare to find them in murals like they were back then, the punk and anarchist culture of protest of that decade was vastly different from today. Symbolism was more clear and direct: corporations, dollar signs and logos were the enemies, stenciled on walls, slapped on posters. Justice was crucified on the altars of the capital, and everyone could see it. Nowadays, I feel the targets are more diffuse. The power that the elites cling to is more abstract in nature than money or political control. Thus, rebellion struggles to deliver a message as simple yet striking.
